Out West with the Hardys (1938)

Judge James K. Hardy, a beacon of justice, is pulled from his familiar surroundings when he receives an earnest plea from an old comrade, Dora Northcote. Dora and her husband Bill are on the verge of losing their cherished ranch, a consequence of a neighboring rancher's refusal to extend their water lease contract. Seeing an opportunity to escape the domestic frustrations that have been plaguing his family, Judge Hardy rounds up the clan and steers them westward. Emily, his wife, is weighed down by the mundane demands of spring cleaning. Their son, Andy, is nursing a wounded heart after a spat with his sweetheart, Polly Benedict, while their daughter, Marian, is in a similar boat, having clashed with her beau, Dennis Hunt. However, the tranquility of the ranch life proves to be a mere illusion as fresh challenges crop up. Ignoring caution, Judge Hardy sinks his finances into an adjoining plot, hoping to lend a hand to the beleaguered Northcotes. Meanwhile, Marian finds herself in a whirlwind romance with the mature and rugged foreman, Ray Holt, despite her unpreparedness for wedded bliss. Andy, in a misguided attempt to impress, inadvertently causes the prized horse of Ray's young daughter, 'Jake', to suffer a dangerous injury. As a cloud of uncertainty hangs over the Hardy family, they find themselves navigating uncharted territories, both in the vast western landscape and in their personal lives. Yet, the Hardys are not known to back down from a challenge, and the horizon might not be as bleak as it seems.
