Out of Time (1988)

In a future world brimming with technological advancements, the law-enforcement landscape is dramatically different. Police officers now chase down criminals using innovative devices. However, Channing Taylor, a cop with an old-school spirit, prefers the thrill of the chase, the way it was done a century ago. His nemesis, the notorious criminal Richard Marcus, outsmarts him during a high-stakes break-in at a research facility. Taylor's refusal to use his sophisticated equipment, ironically invented by his own forefather, Maxwell Taylor, lands him in hot water with his superiors, resulting in his suspension. Taylor, however, is not a cop who gives up easily. He suspects that Marcus was after a groundbreaking invention: a time machine under development. Taylor's hunch leads him to believe that Marcus has sent the machine into the future, planning to retrieve it when it reappears. Determined to thwart Marcus, Taylor stakes out the predicted location, and as anticipated, Marcus reappears just as the time machine materializes. As Marcus steps into the machine, Taylor makes a bold move and latches onto it, hurtling alongside Marcus a hundred years into the past. Struggling to navigate this unfamiliar world, Taylor must also track down Marcus. His journey takes an unexpected turn when he ends up arrested and encounters his ancestor, Maxwell Taylor, who is considered a laughingstock in this era. Together, they embark on a mission to restore justice, combining their respective knowledge and skills in a time where they both seem out of place.
