Plot

Alex Houston, a Manhattanite with a flair for storytelling, finds herself in a hilariously twisted predicament. To appease her fiancé Dana, she has crafted a web of lies, convincing him that she's the last of her lineage. But when duty calls her back to her South Carolina roots for her high-drama sister Jeannie's wedding, her world spirals into comedic chaos. As she walks on the tightrope of concealing her engagement and Dana's identity - a Jewish African American - the truth becomes a juggling act too hard to maintain. In a twist of fate, Alex's mischief-maker best friend Jonathan sets a wild rumor afloat at the wedding, insinuating that Alex isn't quite straight and Dana is not a man but a woman. The unexpected supportive reaction from her family leaves Alex bemused and she decides to ride the wave of this new identity. It seems safer than the truth, doesn't it? However, the situation spirals further out of control when Alex and Jonathan rope in the tantalizing Risa to play Alex's girlfriend during Jeannie's visit to New York. This romp of farcical proportions, directed by the acclaimed Lee Friedlander, delves into the humorous, sometimes awkward journey we undertake when revealing our true selves to those we hold dear - irrespective of our sexual orientation. As Alex gets more entwined in her own fabrications, she must grapple with her relationship with her fiancé, her family, and ultimately, herself. "Out at the Wedding" is a rollercoaster ride of laughter, love, and the lengths we go to in order to keep up appearances.
