Plot

Once an indomitable spirit, Kailasam now stands at the threshold of his twilight years, his life adorned with a multitude of diseases and a dilapidated house. His only son remains estranged, leaving him in the solitary company of his cherished box of Orange candies. Despite their adverse effects on his chronic diabetes, he indulges in these sweet delights, mocking the grim reaper with each bite. However, death remains unmoved by his audacious laughter. To stave off the pervading boredom, Kailasam gamefully exploits the free ambulance service, turning the dreary hospital trips into an adventurous escape. Enter Satya, a grieving paramedic struggling with the recent loss of his own obstinate father. His life is thrown off-course by the arrival of the cantankerous Kailasam, a man who bears a disconcerting resemblance to his late father. As Satya grapples with this uncanny coincidence, he ponders whether the universe is testing him, prodding him towards an unknown destiny. Simultaneously, he must help Kailasam find a hospital that will admit him, embarking on a journey that promises to be as arduous as it is long. Meanwhile, Arumugam, the ambulance's stern driver, finds his patience stretched thin by Kailasam's antics. The once-peaceful routine of his job is disrupted, and he finds himself ensnared in the whirlwind of this old man's life. As these disparate lives collide, 'Orange Mittai' weaves a tapestry of human relationships and poignant self-discovery. In this tale of journeys, destinations blur, and the voyage itself becomes the ultimate revelation. Through the lens of life's simple pleasures and profound losses, it poses the question: What does it truly mean to be alive?
