Saturday Night Fever (1977)

Tony Manero is a 19-year old Italian-American who loves disco. He regularly frequents 2001 Odyssey, a local disco club, where he shows off his dancing skills. Manero wants a better life, a challenge given his complex family, lack of education, and miserable job. Eventually, Manero's friend Gus is jumped by a group of Puerto Ricans, further inflaming ethnic tensions in their neighborhood. Tony's friend Bobby is also struggling, as he is facing pressure to marry his pregnant girlfriend, locking him into a life of desperation. Manero develops a complicated relationship with Stephanie Mangano, his dance partner and friend. Manero and Magano seek to win a dance tournament at 2001 Odyssey - and its generous cash prize - but must beat a wide array of dancers from different ethnic backgrounds in order to do so.
