Plot

Beneath the opulent grandeur of Verdi's Macbeth, a young opera singer, Betty, finds herself thrust into the limelight as destiny hands her a leading role. The diva of the original production suffers a mysterious accident, clearing the stage for Betty's debut. However, the dazzling spotlights obscure a sinister shadow. A psychopath, whose fixation on Betty traces back to her innocent childhood dreams, lurks in the wings, waiting for his cue. As the curtains rise, and Betty's soaring voice fills the opera house, a chilling symphony of terror begins to unravel. Her boyfriend Stefano, a diligent production assistant, and her costumer designer Giulia, along with her devoted agent Mira, fall prey to the phantom's lethal obsession. Each murder is a terrifying encore, bringing the killer closer to his ultimate obsession - Betty. Inspector Alan Santini, an ardent fan of the young soprano, steps into the orchestration of horror, vowing to protect Betty. Yet, the twisted antagonist, cloaked in the haunting melodies of the opera, always seems a few steps ahead. As Betty grapples with the rising dread and the supposed curse of Verdi's masterpiece, the question echoes in the eerie silence between each act - Who is the killer? In the grand finale of this riveting production, the suspense swells to a crescendo, promising a climax that would render even Verdi's Macbeth pale in comparison. Who will take the final bow - the ingenue or the phantom? 'Opera' (1987) is a chilling aria of suspense and horror, where the stage is set for a performance that leaves the audience gasping for an encore.
