Plot

In the gritty underbelly of present-day downtown Los Angeles, we find Freddy, a minor-league lawbreaker, caught in a perilous whirlwind of crime and desperation. Bearing the weight of a bag filled with cash and cocaine, he's plunged far beyond his depth into an abyss of treachery. A bullet lodged in his gut and time slipping through his fingers like sand, he's a man cornered. The specter of death looms large, either by bleeding out or at the merciless hands of Vic, a formidable Mexican drug baroness whose loot Freddy now possesses. His only escape is a one-way ticket aboard a Greyhound bus, bound for the desolate depths of the California desert. Meanwhile, his comrades, Mac and JJ, aren't as fortunate. Trapped in this mobile purgatory, Freddy exhausts every trick, every meaningful connection he has, to extricate himself from this escalating pressure cooker of peril. The bus is an unpredictable microcosm; a passenger veils a secret beneath their innocent guise, while a teenage girl unwittingly steps into a treacherous labyrinth of darkness. As the sands in his hourglass dwindle, Freddy is forced to confront his own reflection, his lurking demons, and his obligations towards his daughter and her mother—the woman who holds his heart. He's compelled to intervene in the young girl's plight on the bus, and in doing so, perhaps salvage his own soul. Drawing elements from seminal crime thrillers like Friedkin's "French Connection," Safdie Bros.' "Good Time," and De Palma's "Carlito's Way," "One Way" is a riveting noir saga that forces its protagonist—and its audience—down a thrilling, harrowing path from which there is no return.
