Plot

Born into the blue-collar bustle of Port Talbot, Wales, Paul Potts (James Corden), a man of humble beginnings and a heart bursting with operatic passion, finds solace in the spine-tingling world of opera. Despite the vocal disdain of his father Roland (Colm Meaney) and the relentless bullies from his past, Paul's dream is fueled further by his biggest cheerleaders, his loving mother Yvonne (Julie Walters) and his hapless yet loyal manager Braddon (Mackenzie Crook). His burning desire to impress the legendary Luciano Pavarotti (Stanley Townsend) at a prestigious music academy in Venice becomes the rhythm of his everyday life. In the midst of his tumultuous journey, Paul finds an unexpected ally in Julz (Alexandra Roach), his first real love. However, the stability of her support is as unpredictable as their relationship, adding another layer of complexity to his pursuit of operatic greatness. Paul's journey is a relentless dance of triumph and setback, each step forward often eclipsed by a stumble backward, usually a consequence of his own crippling lack of self-confidence. Renowned director David Frankel and screenwriter Justin Zackham weave this poignant tale of a man constantly teetering on the edge of his dreams and reality. Through a series of serendipitous events, Paul's life takes an unexpected turn when he stumbles upon Britain's Got Talent (2007), a reality television show that could catapult his dream into a reality. One Chance is a mesmerizing story of an amateur opera singer's transformation from a timid shop clerk to an international sensation, riding the wave of a viral video phenomenon that leaves the world in awe of his talent.
