Night of the Demon (1957)

In the murky underbelly of London's fascination with the paranormal, skeptical psychologist Dr. John Holden finds himself entangled in a world he was intent on debunking. His journey to London, originally purposed to attend a conference on the supernatural, takes a sinister twist when he learns of the inexplicable death of his collaborator, Professor Henry Harrington. Harrington's niece, Joanna, a steadfast believer in the paranormal, suspects Dr. Julian Karswell, a former magician turned devil cult leader, to be responsible for her uncle's demise. She suggests a Runic curse, a concept that piques Holden's curiosity despite his dismissive view on such mystic affairs. In a bid to unravel the mystery, Holden accepts an invitation to Karswell's ominous estate, hoping to borrow a specific book from the British Museum that remains tantalisingly out of reach. However, the visit proves to be more than a mere academic pursuit when Holden discovers a similar curse slipped amongst his own papers. A series of unnerving events begin to unfold, forcing the once skeptical doctor to question his disbelief. The once dismissive Holden finds himself confronting terrifying realities, and he must scramble to find a way to break the curse and escape the death sentence that now hangs over him. As he becomes more entwined in the world he once scorned, the line between skepticism and belief blurs for Holden. 'Night of the Demon' takes the audience on a chilling journey of suspense, as an unwavering skeptic finds himself in a desperate battle against a demonic curse, in a race against time that could cost him his life.
