Plot

In the bustling city of Los Angeles, Harry Moseby, a hardened private detective and former athlete, finds himself entangled in a labyrinth of deceit and mystery. Hired by Arlene Iverson, a faded Hollywood actress living in obscurity, Harry is tasked with locating her missing 16-year-old daughter, Delly Grastner. Delly's world is one marred by drugs and promiscuity, and her last known contact is Quentin, a mechanic working on movie sets amidst the glittering world of Hollywood. As Harry delves deeper into the shadows of Delly's life, he grapples with his own demons. His wife Ellen's infidelity gnaws at him, making the task at hand even more challenging. These personal tribulations lead him to cross paths with Marv Ellman and Joey Ziegler, stuntmen who live life on the edge, their existence mirroring the thrill and danger Harry is courting. The trail of breadcrumbs takes Harry to the sun-soaked expanses of the Florida Keys. Here, Delly resides with her stepfather, Tom Iverson, and the enigmatic Paula, who shares an unconventional relationship with Tom onboard their shared boat. Despite her initial reluctance, Delly agrees to return to Los Angeles with Harry, setting in motion a chain of events that bring buried secrets to light. When Delly perishes in a car crash, suspicions point toward Quentin. However, Harry soon unravels a twisted plot that transcends a simple missing person's case. The heart of the matter is a complex smuggling operation involving a priceless artifact, linking the runaway girl, the daring world of Hollywood stuntmen, and a suspicious mechanic in an intricate web of mystery and murder. As Harry navigates this maze, he balances his professional pursuit with a personal quest to mend his faltering marriage, crafting a tale of suspense that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
