Plot

National Bird is a gripping portrayal that weaves together the intricate narratives of three tenacious whistleblowers, resolute in their mission to shed light on a deeply contentious issue cloaked in secrecy: the covert U.S. drone warfare. Anchoring the film are three battle-hardened veterans, whose souls are tormented by remorse for their roles in the distant, nameless deaths in foreign lands. They bravely choose to voice their experiences, aware of the potential repercussions. Their lives take unexpected, intensely dramatic turns, with one protagonist's journey leading her into the heart of Afghanistan where she uncovers a chilling incident. Yet, her exploration also uncovers a glimmer of hope for redemption and peaceful resolution. National Bird offers an unprecedented glimpse into the clandestine U.S. drone initiative, bridging the narratives of veterans and survivors in a way that documentary cinema has not previously dared. Its haunting visuals resonate deeply, transforming a distant problem into a poignant reality, leaving audiences profoundly moved and closer to an issue that is far removed geographically, yet morally close to home.
