In the heart of the quaint town of Walden, the annual Wild West Days festival is underway, a local tradition championed this year by bookstore owner and amateur sleuth, Samantha Kinsey. This year's festivities are amped up by the arrival of Clint Taylor, a former TV star with a Wild West show, adding a sprinkle of Hollywood magic to the small-town event. Ruggedly handsome and charismatic, Taylor brings with him a troupe of cowboys and cast members from his old series, Red River, promising an unforgettable show.
However, beneath the glitz and glamor of Taylor's troupe, a sinister plot brews. Taylor, who is planning a major comeback with a new movie, is not the beloved figure he appears to be. After a staged accident for publicity, tensions within the troupe rise and the atmosphere grows thick with intrigue. The drama takes a deadly turn when Taylor's stand-in, Dogie, is shot during a performance, leaving everyone to question whether Dogie was the intended target or merely a casualty caught in a crossfire meant for Taylor.
With the local authorities quick to pin the blame on Clint, Samantha, along with her trusted friends, Cassie and Philby, dive headfirst into the mystery, unearthing a web of secrets and betrayals. From Jeb Fletcher, the ex-con announcer with a murky past, to Annie, Clint's former lover who was promised a movie role, and Zeke Foster, the shady dealer in counterfeit Red River memorabilia, each character is steeped in suspicion.
As the trio dig deeper, they uncover sinister motives and hidden truths, turning the Wild West show into a stage for a real-life whodunit. The plot thickens, the stakes rise, and it's up to Samantha and her friends to unravel the mystery before the final curtain falls.
