Plot

In the serene tranquility of Central Park, the peace is shattered when Violet Feverel's lifeless body is discovered on a bridle path. Inspector Oscar Piper, initially inclined to chalk it up to a tragic equestrian accident, finds his assumptions challenged by his friend, the intrepid amateur detective, Hildegarde Withers. Upon locating the horse, she uncovers a sinister clue - the presence of blood. With the cause of death revealed as a brutal blow to the head, the whispers of murder begin to echo. The suspects quickly amass: Don Gregg, Violet's embittered ex-husband recently liberated by a falsified court order after Violet had him incarcerated for unpaid alimony; Latigo Wells, the fiery manager of Violet's stables seen in a heated exchange with her that fateful morning; and Eddie Fry, entangled in a love triangle with Violet and her sister Barbara Foley. The investigation leads Hildegarde and Oscar to Don's Long Island residence, a house of secrets where they encounter his ailing father, Patrick, the enigmatic caretaker, Chris Thomas, and his handicapped son, Joey. But when Patrick too falls prey to the unknown murderer, the stakes escalate. Defying danger, Hildegarde delves deeper, unearthing clues that point towards the killer, a shadowy figure who now has her in their crosshairs. This captivating tale of deceit, intrigue, and murder will keep viewers guessing who the real killer is until the very end.
