Plot

In the heart of the tumultuous sixties, world champion boxer Muhammad Ali confronts his fiercest opponent yet — the rigid US government. When Ali boldly requests exemption from the military draft, citing his steadfast religious beliefs, he is met with an unyielding denial. His refusal to be inducted into the army results in a shocking conviction and a sentence of five years' imprisonment. This gripping tale of principle and power follows Ali's case as it weaves its way through the judicial system to the Supreme Court. Initially, the justices lean towards upholding the conviction. Justice John Harlan, tasked with penning the majority opinion, assigns his clerk, Kevin Connolly, to lay the groundwork. However, in a twist of conscience, Connolly finds himself crafting an argument for overturning the conviction, a sentiment that Harlan himself comes to share. "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight" paints a vivid picture of the politics and arrogance that permeated the Vietnam War era, and the retribution meted out on one of the 20th century's greatest sportsmen for his refusal to participate in the conflict. As Harlan and Connolly work to sway their colleagues, this compelling narrative unravels the greatest match of Ali's life, a bout not within the confines of a boxing ring, but within the hallowed halls of justice.
