Midnight Ride (1990)

In the shadowed corners of Montevideo, a small Californian city, an ominous wave of inexplicable murders sends icy shivers through the community. Amidst this turmoil, Lara, a Russian immigrant and dissatisfied wife of Lawson, a dedicated cop with his roots in military police, finds herself at the crossroads of her life. After an intense confrontation with Lawson, she flees into the inky darkness of the night, her heart echoing with the harsh reality that her husband's devotion lies more with his duty than with her. On her solitary drive to a friend's sanctuary, Lara encounters a crestfallen hitchhiker, Justin McKay, who seems to be desperately seeking a ride and some human compassion. Oblivious to her impending doom, she offers him a lift, unknowingly steering her life towards a chilling whirlwind of terror. Justin, a deeply disturbed individual, is a prisoner of his gruesome past, scarred by a horrific childhood that witnessed the terrifying murder and mutilation of his little sister by their brutal alcoholic mother. This traumatic event has twisted him into a monstrous avenger, who ruthlessly eliminates anyone who offends or harms him, capturing their final terrified moments through the merciless lens of his Polaroid camera. Meanwhile, Lawson, nursing a wounded leg in plaster and a bruised ego, finds himself in a race against time. Left for dead by the merciless Justin, he miraculously survives and is now compelled to navigate the increasingly treacherous and shadow-laced roads in search of Lara, his estranged wife. As the night deepens, the thrill of the chase intensifies. Lara's formidable captor, Justin, spirals further into his uncontainable killing spree, leaving a trail of blood-soaked carnage and fiery devastation in his wake. Their fates intertwined, Lara, Lawson, and Justin hurtle towards a climax that promises a collision of fear, desperation, and madness in the heart of the night.
