Plot

In the gritty underbelly of criminal life dwells Jong Dae, a small-time crook with a knack for landing in jail, his home a ramshackle trailer perched within a sea-kissed junkyard. His existence is a far cry from the typical paternal figure, making it even more startling when he discovers he is a father to a seven-year-old girl, Joon. This revelation comes via a stern social worker while Jong Dae is serving yet another prison sentence. Joon, who has been residing in an orphanage, is on the brink of being whisked away to America for adoption. Her one heartfelt wish before she departs is to meet her elusive father. Sensing an opportunity, the social worker strikes a deal with Jong Dae: his freedom and a nest egg in return for a month of fatherhood. Although initially overwhelmed, Jong Dae quickly finds himself enamored by Joon's vivacious spirit and uncanny knowledge of soccer, a passion they share. The duo navigates the highs and lows of their newfound relationship, their bond strengthening with each passing day, culminating in a poignant trip to the World Cup Championship, a gift from the social worker. However, a life of crime soon catches up to Jong Dae, landing him in the hospital with severe injuries and the grim prognosis of impending blindness. But the worst is yet to come. The social worker drops a bombshell: Joon's journey to America is not for adoption, but due to her grave illness with limited time left. "Meet Mr. Daddy" is a moving tale of a petty criminal's crash course in fatherhood, a journey filled with unexpected bonds, harsh realities, and the bitter-sweet fragility of life.
