Laila, a remarkably tenacious teenager with cerebral palsy, navigates the bustling halls of Delhi University, her heart set on becoming a writer. She channels her creativity into composing music for a local indie band, where she falls for the lead singer. However, when her affection is unrequited, she chooses to embrace an exciting opportunity; a scholarship at New York University. Undeterred by her father's concerns, Laila moves to the vibrant neighborhood of Greenwich Village, Manhattan, accompanied by her traditional Maharashtrian mother, Shubhangini. In this thrilling new environment, she encounters Jared, a charismatic young man assisting her in her creative writing class. Yet, it is the fiery independence of Khanum, a blind activist of Pakistani-Bangladeshi descent, that truly captivates her.
