Neurotic television writer Isaac "Ike" Davis is having relationship problems. To start, his ex-wife has turned out to be a lesbian. Meanwhile, Ike is dating a 17-year-old named Tracy and has to navigate the age difference. Things are equally messy with Ike's friend Yale, who is torn between his wife Emily and a beautiful journalist named Mary.
