Plot

"Mama" weaves the poignant narratives of three disparate families, all grappling with their unique maternal dilemmas. Single mother Dong-Sook (Uhm Jung-Hwa) juggles selling yogurt drinks and cleaning apartments to provide for her son, Won-Jae (Lee Hyung-Suk), whose mobility is hampered by a debilitating disease. Her world spirals out of control when she is faced with a cancer diagnosis, casting a dark shadow over her already challenging life. Next, we meet Eun-Sung (Ryu Hyun-Kyung), forever eclipsed by her renowned opera singer mother, Hee-Kyung (Jeon Su-Kyeong). Despite being a wife and mother herself, Eun-Sung still feels more like her mother's aide than her child. She harbors a childhood dream of becoming a pop singer, a dream squashed by her haughty mother. As an adult, can Eun-Sung finally step into the spotlight and realize her dream? Finally, we delve into the life of Seung-Chul (Yu Hae-Jin), a formidable mafia boss who sheds his tough exterior upon visiting his mother, Ok-Joo (Kim Hae-Sook). His fearsome persona dissolves into a caring son, who goes above and beyond to ensure his mother's happiness, even slipping into the role of a surrogate father to his widowed mother. When Ok-Joo resists having a mastectomy despite her breast cancer diagnosis, Seung-Chul is plunged into a battle of persuasion. In a twist of events, Ok-Joo reveals a cherished desire - to meet an old flame from her youth, leaving Seung-Chul with an unexpected task.
