Plot

In the sweep of the great American plains, Merton Gill, an aspiring cowboy actor, abandons his humble hometown roots to chase his celluloid dreams in the glittering heart of Hollywood. Yet, his starry-eyed ambitions are met with harsh reality as his acting prowess is deemed virtually non-existent. However, amidst the sea of critics, one beacon of hope emerges - a vivacious actress named Flips. Flips recognises an untapped potential in Merton, not as a cowboy hero, but in the unexpected realm of comedy. Despite a lackluster debut in a minor role, the unique manner of his failure sparks Flips' interest; she envisions him not as a thespian tragedy, but as a comedic goldmine. Secretly, she convinces the studio to cast Merton in a western parody. A covert operation is set in motion, as they keep Merton in the dark about their true intentions, knowing his disdain for the comedic genre. The result is a riveting roller-coaster of artistry and deception that is far from a tragicomic ending. Instead, the film metamorphoses into a triumphant ode to art and its faithful servants - the artists, embodied here by the grand performances of Joan Blondell and Stuart Erwin. "Make Me a Star" is a captivating exploration of dreams, determination, and the unexpected routes to stardom in the golden age of Hollywood.
