Plot

In the world where the line between illusion and reality blurs, we find Corky (Sir Anthony Hopkins), a once struggling magician's assistant, who stumbles upon his ticket to fame, a ventriloquist dummy named "Fats". After a catastrophic first solo performance, Corky's career takes an extraordinary turn with Fats by his side. They quickly ascend to the dizzying heights of celebrity, captivating audiences with their riveting performances. However, beneath the glitz and glamor, a sinister plot unfolds. As Corky's fame grows, Fats seemingly comes to life, developing a chilling mind of his own. This unassuming dummy turns into a malevolent entity, vying for control over his master in an eerie power-play. Seeking solace from the oppressive puppet and the exhausting demands of stardom, Corky escapes to an isolated mountain retreat, run by his high school sweetheart, Peggy (Ann-Margret). As he tries to piece together a new life away from the spotlight, Corky finds that he cannot sever the strings that bind him to Fats so easily. In the chilling narrative of "Magic" (1978), the stage is set for a harrowing game of cat and mouse, where the puppeteer becomes the puppet, and the man who once breathed life into a wooden doll is now at the mercy of its sinister whims. As Corky's past and present intertwine, the boundary between sanity and madness gradually fades, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats, questioning what is real and what is simply... magic.
