In the secluded reaches of Peru's Cordillera Blanca Mountain range, young Madeinusa, blessed with an innocent Indian visage, resides in a peculiar village steeped in fervent religiosity. The villagers adhere to an unusual tradition that from Good Friday's third hour in the afternoon, the moment Christ expired on the cross, till Easter Sunday's dawn, all acts are permissible, as they believe God is temporarily deceased and blind to mortal actions. In these sacred hours, sin dissipates into thin air, and acquittal is granted to all deeds, free from guilt.
Each year, Madeinusa, her sister Chale, and their father Don Cayo, the town's mayor and influential figure, unflinchingly uphold this ritualistic belief. Yet, the arrival of Salvador, a young and unsuspecting geologist from Lima, irrevocably alters the established order. His presence in the village, during this time of divine absence, unknowingly sets Madeinusa's destiny on an unexpected path, and the village traditions face an impending upheaval.
