In 1830, precisely forty years after their last horrifying manifestation of vampirism, the Karnstein descendants invoke an unspeakable ritual. Using the blood of an innocent, they resurrect the stunning yet malevolent Mircalla, formerly known as Carmilla in 1710. As the embodiment of evil, she is as enchanting as she is deadly. Their chilling estate lies near a finishing school, a veritable banquet of fresh, young blood for the reborn vampire. But the school also presents other tantalizing opportunities. One such prospect is the school's headmaster, a man teetering on the precipice of desperation and desire, yearning to be Mircalla's devoted disciple. Caught in the vampire's bewitching web is Richard Lestrange, a foolhardy author blinded by his infatuation for Mircalla. Unbeknownst to him, he is but another pawn in the deadly game that the Karnstein heirs have been playing for centuries.
