In the heart of Manchester, young Goose, orphaned on a bleak Christmas past, becomes an unlikely guardian for his mentally unhinged grandmother, while resorting to petty theft to survive. He sells his stolen treasures to Frank, a tender-hearted fence living in the same estate. One fateful Christmas Eve, Goose encounters the enigmatic Anthony, a stranger with an almost magical ability to perceive what people have lost, merely by touching them. From Frank's cherished first edition of Oscar Wilde to a grieving doctor's lost wife, Anthony's uncanny power is revealed. Driven by the hope of finding his missing dog, Goose convinces Anthony to aid him in returning a stolen bangle. This journey brings Goose face-to-face with the wife of his probation officer, a woman haunted by the death of her young daughter, a tragedy that occurred on the same day as the fatal accident that claimed Goose's parents.
