Lady Behave! (1937)

In the whirlwind wake of Mardi Gras, Clarice Kendall Andrews, a free-spirited party-goer, and Paula's reckless sister, returns home with a bombshell announcement: she got married amidst the carnival chaos. A shockwave hits Paula, as she is well aware that Clarice is already shackled to her wayward gigolo husband. The plot thickens when Stephen Cormack, Clarice's new spouse, vanishes abroad, leaving behind a lawyer who mistakes Paula for Clarice, and proposes an enticing $5000 deal for marriage annulment. Paula's legal representative sees an opportunity and persuades her to masquerade as Cormack's wife to buy time for untangling Clarice's marital mess. As she steps into Cormack's world, Paula stumbles upon his two adolescent children, who view her as a fortune-hunter with eyes on their father's wealth. As Paula navigates this labyrinth of lies, Clarice's gigolo husband emerges from the shadows, refusing the annulment and smacking Paula with a $10,000 blackmail demand for his silence. With deception on every corner, Paula must maneuver through this maze to clear her sister's name and expose the truth.
