As the veil of the nineteenth century starts to descend, we're led into the tranquil English countryside where retired thespian Miss Leonora Fiske resides, her flamboyant theatrical spirit undimmed by age. Her life is quietly orchestrated by Ellen Creed, a devoted live-in companion. However, Ellen's world is disrupted when news arrives from London: her two sisters, Emily and Louisa Creed, are being threatened with institutionalization due to their unstable mental conditions and disruptive antics.
Unwilling to let her sisters face such a fate, Ellen persuades Miss Fiske to offer them temporary sanctuary, hiding the true severity of their deranged mental states. Little does Miss Fiske know, Ellen's intentions extend far beyond a brief visit. As the Creed sisters' eccentricities intrude upon Miss Fiske's peaceful existence, Ellen tactfully suggests an extended leave for Miss Fiske, transforming her temporary solution into a permanent arrangement.
Ellen's web of deception grows as she assures her sisters that the house is now their own, a secret they must guard fiercely. However, the tranquility is shattered with the arrival of their conniving nephew, Albert Feather, whose primary interest lies in his own financial prosperity. Ellen's carefully constructed house of cards teeters on the edge, as her secrets threaten to unravel, potentially bringing ruin upon them all.
