Plot

Set amidst the stirring turbulence of 1930's India, "Kisna" is a poignant tale of star-crossed love and duty, woven against the backdrop of a nation in the throes of a revolution. Peter Beckett, a stern British Deputy Commissioner, rules over a vast region in colonial India, sharing his life with his wife and their charming daughter, Catherine. When a young Catherine forms an innocent bond with the local boy, Kisna Singh, Beckett, fearing a breach of societal norms, sends her back to the safety of Britain. Years pass, and Catherine blossoms into a striking young woman, her heart still tethered to her childhood friend, Kisna. She decides to return to India, stepping into a landscape drastically different from her memories. The air vibrates with rebellion, as Indians unite, clamoring for their oppressors to vacate their homeland. Amidst the rising chaos, Catherine and Kisna find each other, their friendship ripening into a forbidden love. However, the path of love is strewn with thorns. Kisna is bound by duty to marry Lakshmi, a young woman chosen by his father, while Catherine is seen as an adversary by the burgeoning nationalist movement, including Kisna's own kin. When Catherine's life spirals into danger, she finds her only refuge in Kisna. On the very day of his wedding with Lakshmi, Kisna and Catherine abscond, pursued by an irate mob led by Kisna's brother, Shankar. As Kisna embarks on a perilous journey to escort Catherine to the British High Commission in New Delhi, a tender romance unfurls between them, a testament to love in the face of adversity. Yet, Kisna is trapped in a complex emotional triangle between Catherine, his duty-bound commitment to Lakshmi, and his loyalty towards his nation. "Kisna" is a compelling narrative of love, sacrifice, and duty, where the lines between 'Karma' (the noble deed) and 'Dharma' (the duty) blur. It's a riveting exploration of an Indo-British romantic pair, their fate intertwined with the destiny of a nation, poised on the brink of freedom.
