Plot

In the bustling city of San Francisco, California, the annual Mayor's convention sets the stage for a serendipitous encounter between two contrasting personalities. Steve Fisk, played by the charismatic Clark Gable, is the fiercely proud Mayor of Puget City, hailing from a rugged longshoreman background. His counterpart, the refined and educated Clarissa Standish, played by Loretta Young, is the equally proud Mayor of the quaint Winona, Maine, revered for her unwavering dedication to her constituents. As the convention unfolds, the unlikely duo finds themselves irresistibly drawn to each other despite their stark differences. Their connection sparks a series of adventures, replete with mishaps and shenanigans that make for a lively, light-hearted spectacle, courtesy of Frank Morgan's comic relief. However, their escapades don't go unnoticed. Raymond Burr's character menacingly lurks in the background, scheming to disrupt their newfound camaraderie. Back home, their respective cities stir with gossip and speculation, their mayoral antics causing a splash that neither Puget City's rough-and-tumble, nor Winona's quiet tranquillity can ignore. "Key to the City" weaves a tale of attraction, comedy, and political drama, exploring how two contrasting worlds can collide in the most unexpected of ways.
