Plot

In the grand expanse of a rustic New Mexico adobe, 11-year-old Ella embarks on an extraordinary summer adventure that transcends her ordinary world. As her mother, likened to astronaut Michael Collins, plunges into the shadowy recesses of leukemia treatment, Ella finds herself drawn into the peculiar universe of her grandmother's realm, a place as enigmatic as the far side of the moon. A rare book vanishes from her grandmother's library, and Ella, driven by curiosity and a desire for answers, begins a quest to retrieve it, all the while trying to comprehend the complexities which have fractured her family. On her solitary journey, Ella finds companionship in Miguel and Rosie, and together they form an unlikely constellation, helping her come to terms with her mother's uncertain future. Her father orbits around her life, a comforting but distant presence. As the summer unfurls, relationships are redefined, and the melodious score by Patrick Neil Doyle underscores the unusual narrative, adding depth to the unfolding mystery. Kepler's Dream is a testament to the power of women both in front of and behind the camera, with a plethora of rich roles for female actors of all ages. The director, the DoP, the Editor, the PPS, and three of the four credited screenwriters are women chosen for their exceptional talent, contributing to the film's unique charm and depth. With its beguiling plot and empowering ethos, Kepler's Dream is an exploration of family, acceptance, and the indomitable spirit of a young girl.
