Plot

In the heartwarming film, "Just for the Summer," Penelope Campbell, a dedicated middle school English teacher, and Jason Humphrey, a successful investment banker, find themselves returning to their root, residing with their respective grandmothers for the summer. Both grandmothers, Dot and Josie, are not only best friends but also next-door neighbors in a quaint lakeside town. Penelope's visit is primarily to celebrate Dot's 75th birthday, while Jason seeks solace in the comforting memories of his childhood home, escaping the crossroads of his life. The grandmothers, each a matchmaker at heart, orchestrate a series of "accidental" meetings for Penelope and Jason, including with each other, much to their chagrin. Both Penelope and Jason, still nursing wounds from their high school romance, are in no position for a relationship, let alone with each other. Amidst the matchmaking chaos, Penelope battles her own secret challenge. She's in the process of refining her first novel manuscript, hoping to secure a conditional publication deal. She's driven by her determination to have the final changes approved by the time of Dot's birthday. Conversely, Jason is grappling with a recent painful break-up and planning to restore Josie's old, broken sailboat. To escape their grandmothers' relentless matchmaking schemes, the pair conspire to "fake" date each other for the summer. This arrangement would buy Penelope time to rework her manuscript and provide Jason the peace he needs to mend the sailboat. However, unbeknownst to Penelope and Jason, their pretend relationship is actually part of Dot and Josie's grand plan. The question remains: Will they allow themselves to open up to the possibility of rekindling their old feelings or continue to hold on to past assumptions, jeopardizing their chance at love anew? "Just for the Summer" is a charming tale of love, second chances, and the surprising meddling of grandmothers.
