Plot

In the underbelly of Vienna, Joy, a young Nigerian woman, finds herself ensnared in the unforgiving cycle of sex trafficking. Her heart aches for her family back home and a brighter future for her young daughter, but the streets she walks on and the debts she pays are dictated by her manipulative and ruthless exploiter, Madame. Struggling to comprehend her role in this brutal system of exploitation, Joy's world is further complicated when she is tasked by Madame to oversee the initiation of Precious - a recent arrival from Nigeria, a teenage girl whose spirit is not yet broken by her grim fate. Amid the harsh realities of their lives, Joy must navigate her own survival while confronting the moral complexities of her position. "Joy" (2018) is a gripping tale of hope, survival, and the desperate search for a better life, set against the backdrop of a world that is often hidden in plain sight.
