Eastern Promises (2007)

Anna Khitrova is a Russian-American midwife at a London hospital. One day, she delivers a baby for a girl named Tatiana who dies in childbirth. Tatiana leaves a diary behind. Using the diary as a guide, Anna searches for clues about Tatiana's family and history. Her search leads her to a Russian restaurant that's a front for Russian gangsters. She develops a friendship with Nikolai Luzhin, a driver for one of the gangsters who decides to help her. Although her life is increasingly in danger, Anna insists on learning the truth about Tatiana.
