Plot

In the heart of Galilee, during a time of economic hardship and political upheaval, a simple carpenter named Jesus awakens from a haunting dream, troubled by the use of his name in desperate cries. Alongside his father, Joseph, they wander tirelessly in search of work, witnessing the relentless grip of Roman taxes and the growing unease fostered by revolts and robber bands. Amidst this turmoil, the real power resides with Caiphas, the high priest, and his formidable adversary, the ruthless Roman procurator, Pontius Pilate. Together with the cunning spy Livius, they aim to maintain Roman control over the increasingly restless Judea. The death of his father leaves Jesus feeling abandoned and uncertain about his calling. A heart-to-heart with his mother, Mary, unveils the prophecy of his miraculous birth and the homage paid by foreign kings, igniting his readiness to embrace his great mission. Leaving behind his previous life and the woman who loves him, Mary of Bethany, Jesus embarks on a spiritual journey, seeking guidance from the influential prophet, John the Baptist. This reunion leads to a transformative baptism, followed by a solitary retreat into the desert where he encounters and overcomes Satan's tempting offer of earthly power. Returning home with newfound resolve, Jesus begins to gather followers, though they harbor doubts about his messianic identity. A miracle at a wedding where he turns water into wine dispels their skepticism, and even the most doubtful, like Simon the Fisher and Thomas, pledge their allegiance. His unexpected actions, such as associating with tax collectors and defending an adulteress from mob justice, continue to perplex his disciples, but also attract the former prostitute Mary Magdalene to his cause. Jesus' dramatic cleansing of the temple from profiteers further cements his growing influence, leading to increasing recognition and concern among both Jewish and Roman authorities. Meanwhile, the execution of his dear friend, John the Baptist, propels Jesus into a whirlwind of public preaching, advocating love for one's fellow man over strict adherence to religious laws, much to the chagrin of his followers and the ambitious disciple, Judas. His popularity reaches an unprecedented peak when he resurrects Lazarus from the dead, leading to a triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Sensing a threat to their authority, the high priest Caiphas and the scheming Pilate conspire to bring about Jesus' downfall. Aware of his impending fate, Jesus shares a final meal with his disciples, encouraging Judas to follow his conscience, indirectly setting his betrayal into motion. In the solitude of a nearby garden, Satan appears for the last time, tempting Jesus with visions of religious wars and atrocities that his death would allegedly bring. Unyielding, Jesus surrenders to Judas and Caiphas' henchmen, enduring a brutal farce of trials and torture, culminating in a public crucifixion. His death triggers an earthquake, darkening the skies and shaking the land. His body is laid to rest in a cave, only to be discovered empty three days later. Jesus, miraculously alive, appears to his disciples, urging them to spread the message that love has indeed triumphed over death.
