Plot

In the heart of Hamburg, Katja (Diane Kruger), a vibrant German woman, and her husband, Nuri Sekerci (Numan Acar), a reformed Turkish-Kurdish drug dealer, have woven a tapestry of love and redemption from their tangled past. Nuri, having traded his drug-dealing days for a degree in business administration while in prison, now operates a modest translation and tax office. Their blissful narrative is punctuated by the laughter of their son, Rocco (Rafael Santana), a symbol of their rebirth. However, their hard-earned tranquility is shattered when a devastating nail bomb, a monstrous manifestation of racially-motivated hatred, is detonated outside Nuri's office, claiming his life and that of their young son. Katja's world, once colored by love and hope, is plunged into an abyss of despair. The authorities, blinded by Nuri's marred past, scour the underbelly of the city for answers, oblivious to the truth that lies in a chillingly different direction. As the investigation unfurls, the grim silhouette of the culprits emerges from the shadows – the neo-Nazi couple, André (Ulrich Brandhoff) and Edda Möller (Hanna Hilsdorf). Yet, in a shocking twist of fate, the labyrinthine legal system throws a lifeline to the defendants, leaving Katja's hopes for justice hanging by a thread. Despite the tireless efforts of her lawyer, Danilo (Denis Moschitto), the court leans in favor of the Möllers, under the crafty manipulation of their defender, Haberbeck (Johannes Krisch). Overwhelmed by the humiliation and the sense of betrayal by the very system she trusted, Katja finds herself teetering on the edge of oblivion. Yet, in her darkest hour, she realizes that if she is to reclaim her life from the clutches of despair, she must take justice into her own hands. As she embarks on this perilous journey, the line blurs between retribution and redemption, challenging her and the audience to question the very nature of justice.
