The Homesman (2014)

This is a historical drama set in the Midwest in 1850. The life of settling in the west is hard and many immigrants can’t take it and go mad. This is the story of three such women who need to be escorted to a church in Iowa where the mentally ill are cared for. Usually a man’s job, no one wanted it, so a strong, independent woman takes the job. The group faces many challenges along the way including a claim jumper being hanged. He is saved and agrees to accompany the women to Iowa for a price. How many of them will make it alive?
