Plot

Caught in a web of deception, Matt Cvetic, a steel factory manager in Pittsburgh, is shrouded in the bitter contempt of his family and friends. Rumors circulate that he is a member of the Communist Party, a truth he does not deny when asked. However, what they fail to grasp is the depth of his allegiance to the party. Tasked with infiltrating his workplace with card-carrying Communists, Matt aims to aid the party in its mission to seize control. Yet, behind this facade of treachery, Matt harbors a secret. He is an undercover agent for the FBI, planted within the party's ranks nine years prior to unravel its machinations. As the party intensifies its activities in Pittsburgh, Matt is thrust into a position of local authority. With this new role, he gains an intimate view of the party's operations but also finds himself vulnerable, under the watchful eyes of potential spies. His double life takes a toll. Torn between duty and a desire to reveal his true identity, he is caught in a precarious situation. Exposure could jeopardize his mission, but silence breeds further estrangement from his loved ones. The arrival of Eve Merrick, a party member and the teacher of Matt's son, further complicates matters. An idealist at heart, Eve's perspective clashes with the party's rigid ideologies, adding another layer of complexity to Matt's already convoluted existence. In this riveting tale of subterfuge and sacrifice, Matt navigates a perilous path, where every move could cost him his credibility, his family, or even his life. "I Was a Communist for the FBI" dives deep into the swirling vortex of Cold War politics, giving viewers a chilling glimpse into the life of an unsung hero, marred by suspicion and shrouded in secrecy.
