Plot

In a world of wealth and deceit, a well-heeled man enlists the services of a seasoned detective, played by Franchot Tone, to delve into the enigmatic past of his wife. The investigation unravels a hidden life, revealing that the wife was once a dancer who absconded from her hometown with a stage actor. However, the actor meets an untimely death before he can spill any secrets. With the unexpected assistance of a showgirl, the detective uncovers further tumultuous twists. The wife, it seems, had craftily used purloined identification from a girlfriend to gain entry into college after swindling a whopping $40,000 from the nightclub where she once worked. The climax unfolds as the detective uncovers a shocking revelation; the husband, upon discovering his wife's checkered past, had eliminated her to evade a potentially scandalous fallout. Furthermore, he had engaged the detective in a sinister plot to pin the blame for her demise on him. In 'I Love Trouble' (1948), the audience is led through an intricate maze of secrets, deception, and murder, where the truth is as elusive as the shadows in the night.
