Plot

In the heart of Hollywood, amidst the glitz and glam, Rosie (Michelle Pfeiffer), a forty-something divorced mother, is treading the waters of aging while she writes and produces the once-popular television comedy, "You Go Girl". However, the show is losing its luster, becoming as dated as the high school it is set in, and is on the brink of extinction as her boss imposes a ban on any remotely controversial subjects. Rosie's life finds an unexpected ray of hope when she hires Adam (Paul Rudd), a charming, spontaneously humorous actor who is eleven years her junior, to play an awkward nerd on her show. As Rosie's preteen daughter, Izzie (Saoirse Ronan), navigates the tumultuous journey of puberty, setting aside her Barbie dolls for her first crush, Rosie finds herself irresistibly drawn to the younger Adam. His arrival breathes new life into the sitcom, rejuvenating its dwindling ratings. Simultaneously, a spark ignites between Rosie and Adam, leading to a romantic entanglement that is both exhilarating and problematic due to Rosie's deep-seated insecurities about their age difference. Just as things seem to be going well, unexpected complications arise. Rosie's fears culminate in the suspicion of Adam's infidelity with the show's star, leading to a tumultuous turn of events where the studio gifts the suspected pair their own sitcom. Amidst this maelstrom of Hollywood egos, ageism, and the allure of younger women, Rosie must decipher the miscommunication and determine whether Mother Nature's intervention is a blessing or a recipe for disaster. All the while, young Izzie is finding her own voice, adding another layer to this tale of love, misadventures, and the trials of aging in Hollywood.
