Plot

In the glitzy world of casinos and high society, Terry Trindale, a member of the struggling songwriting duo, Trindale and Champagne, finds himself hopelessly enamored with the enchanting socialite, Consuelo Croydon. His infatuation is so strong that it distracts him from his craft and plunges him into a whirlpool of debt, owing Consuelo a staggering $3,200. His life takes an unexpected turn when he finally musters the courage to approach her, only to find that she has been aware of his silent adoration all along. With the reemergence of her former flame, Tony Barling, a man she knows spells nothing but trouble yet can't seem to resist, Consuelo concocts a plan to both keep Tony at bay and settle Terry's debt. She hires Terry as her confidential secretary for a period of ten weeks, tasking him with one peculiar duty - to masquerade as her fiancé in front of Tony and to shield her from her own weaknesses, ensuring she doesn't succumb to Tony's allure. This unique contract also forbids Terry from pursuing any romantic advances towards her while in her service. As Terry and his partner, Champagne, temporarily suspend their songwriting pursuits, Terry finds himself locked in a captivating game of wills with Consuelo. He is determined to fulfill his contractual obligations, thwarting her numerous attempts to escape his watchful presence and reunite with Tony. Amidst this chaotic charade, they both tread on the thin ice of their burgeoning feelings, which if left unchecked, could shatter their carefully constructed façade. Will this unusual arrangement lead to the unmasking of hidden emotions or will it leave them forever entangled in a web of pretense and unspoken love?
