In the charming suburbs of Long Island, New York, we meet 11-year-old Gerald "Gerry" Garner, a boy with a larger-than-life personality and physique to match. When his well-meaning parents, Maury and Mrs. Garner, decide Gerald's weight is a concern, they send him to Camp Hope, a haven for overweight boys. Camp Hope, under the benevolent ownership of Harvey and Alice Bushkin, promises a summer of fun with go-karts, swimming, and camaraderie. However, when the Bushkins face bankruptcy, the camp's ownership falls into unpredictable hands. Enter Tony Perkis, a fitness guru with an eccentric personality and a fanatic dedication to transforming these boys into slender versions of themselves. His grand scheme involves documenting their weight loss journey for a slenderizing program infomercial, turning Camp Hope from a summer paradise into a living nightmare. Gerry, along with his new-found friends and the ever-loyal counselor Pat Finley, who’s served at the camp for 18 years, find themselves at the heart of a rebellion. They’re determined to reclaim their camp from Tony's tyrannical rule and restore the spirit of fun and acceptance it once held. While plotting their revolt, the boys also gear up for the legendary Apache Relay, a race that has always seen them defeated by their arch-rivals, Camp MVP.
