Plot

In the heart of the bustling Bronx, where space is a luxury and dreams are often dwarfed by towering buildings, lives Thelma Shaw, affectionately known as Teddy. This ambitious young woman, from a humble working-class background, spends her days navigating the stifling confines of a New York steno pool and her evenings devouring books in an effort to ascend from her mundane existence. Teddy dreams of a life partnered with a man who shares her literary passions, far removed from the unrefined suitors that usually cross her path, such as the exasperating Emil Beatty. Seeking respite from her oppressive boss and the city's relentless rhythm, Teddy embarks on a two-week journey to Camp Kare-Free in the tranquil Catskills. Advertised as an outdoor sanctuary, the camp is a far cry from her urban confines. However, the promise of peace is quickly disrupted by the crowded and noisy conditions, turning her much-anticipated retreat into an ordeal. Unexpectedly, amidst the clamor and chaos, Teddy's life intertwines with Chick Kirkland, a law school graduate moonlighting as a camp waiter. After an initial clash, an unlikely romance blossoms between the pair, challenging Teddy's preconceived notions of love. However, the path to bliss is riddled with obstacles. Their divergent backgrounds and the looming specter of their uncertain future threaten to unweave their newfound bond. As the camp's drama unfolds, a night of innocent misadventures in a rival suitor's cabin casts a shadow of doubt over Chick's intentions. Yet, in the face of adversity, their love weathers the storm of suspicions. Ginger Rogers, playing our determined heroine, and Douglas Fairbanks Jr., portraying the hardworking waiter, bring to life this captivating tale of love, trust, and the pursuit of dreams amidst the adversity of life's unexpected turns. "Having Wonderful Time" is a charming testament to the resilience of love, proving that even in the most challenging circumstances, true affection prevails.
