Plot

In the gloomy heart of the Great Depression, a silent but potent force, Chaney, emerges from the shadows. An enigmatic drifter, he forms an unlikely alliance with Speed, a hustler with an appetite for illicit street fights. Their journey takes them to the vibrant, yet dangerous, underbelly of New Orleans, a city teeming with clandestine opportunities. Speed, embraced warmly by his mistress Gayleen Schoonover, ropes in his former partner Poe to fortify their venture. Amidst this chaos, Chaney finds a tender escape in the arms of Lucy Simpson, a local with an allure as captivating as the city itself. Speed, however, struggles with a looming debt. His adversary, the menacing loan shark Doty, breathes down his neck, adding a layer of tension to their already perilous mission. To settle the score and with an ambition to hit it big, Speed plunges into a risky gamble. He promotes a fight, pitting Chaney against the local champion Jim Henry, whose reign is secured by an equally scheming promoter. The fight ends in their favor, filling their pockets with a fortune. However, Speed, ensnared by his gambling addiction, squanders his share, leaving them at the mercy of the ruthless Doty. Their only salvation lies in a new challenge—a face-off against a formidable contender brought in from Chicago by the conniving Gandil. The stakes are high and the odds are against them. With his hard-earned money on the line, will Chaney step back into the ring? This tale of survival, strength, and sacrifice is an exploration of the human spirit, pushed to its limits in the harshest of times.
