Plot

In the sun-drenched landscapes of the Wild West, generations of the Adams family have built a legacy, breeding the finest horses near the bustling town of Buckaroo. Bronze statues of Adams' ancestors stand testament to their heritage in the town square, their horses having once been the pride of the government cavalry. The current patriarch, Jeff Adams (Joseph Crehan), is a man more interested in the thrill of a gamble than the intricacies of business. This weakness allows the cunning and ambitious Buckaroo businessman, Brock Danver (Onslow Stevens), to snatch away the coveted government horse contract, setting his predatory sights on more than just business - the Adams ranch and Jeff's charming, starry-eyed daughter Kim (Ruth Terry) included. Into this brewing storm rides Roy Rogers (Roy Rogers), a carefree singing cowboy with a heart as light as his tune. Kim, smitten by Roy's charm and voice, saves him from incarceration by Danver's puppet-sheriff Mac Marclay (LeRoy Mason), offering Roy and his muscular companion Teddy Bear (Guinn "Big Boy" Williams) jobs as wranglers on the Adams ranch. Sharp-eyed Roy quickly unravels Danver's sinister plot to dismantle the Adams' horse-raising empire and steps up to counter his malicious plans. Tragedy strikes when Jeff, lured by Danver, is killed attempting to ride the untamed stallion, Trigger (Trigger). Roy, realising the stallion's potential, rescues it from being shot and hides it in a secluded meadow, painstakingly training it to become a champion horse. Simultaneously, Danver ruthlessly tightens his grip on the Adams' ranch, convincing Kim to relinquish her father's legacy in lieu of the towering debts accrued in his rigged gambling house. Amidst the dust and deception, Roy rides out to reclaim what rightfully belongs to the Adams family. With the newly trained Trigger under him, he dares to challenge Danver in a high-stakes race, a daring bid to win back the government contract and restore the Adams' honor. The tale of "Hands Across the Border" (1944) is a riveting blend of action, emotion, and the timeless spirit of the Wild West, all set to the rhythm of Rogers' captivating songs.
