In the heart of Edinburgh, the enigmatic seventeen-year-old Hallam Foe is haunted by the tragic suicide of his mother, who drowned in a nearby lake after a fatal overdose of sleeping pills. The peculiar teenager, obsessed with spying on the unsuspecting locals in his spare time, holds a sinister suspicion against his stepmother Verity Foe, whom he accuses of orchestrating his mother's untimely death. After a heated altercation with his father, Julius Foe, Hallam escapes his familial home, finding refuge in the bustling cityscape of Edinburgh.
