Guru (1980)

In the tumultuous era preceding India's independence, a revolutionary named Raghu is ostracized by his noble father, vanishing from the public eye under the pursuit of law enforcement and presumed dead. A decade later, a shocking tragedy unfolds as Raghu's wife is killed by a lascivious landlord. Their young son, in a fit of revenge, takes the landlord's life and disappears into obscurity. Years pass and the boy, now known as Ashok, emerges as a wealthy philanthropist, humbly managing "Parvathi Nilayam", a sanctuary for orphaned and impoverished children, named in memory of his beloved mother. However, beneath this noble exterior, Ashok secretly operates as "Guru", a notorious thief whose daring heists finance the shelter. His dual identity remains a guarded secret, known only to his confidante, Mahesh. Simultaneously, Ashok's grandfather, unaware of his existence, rears an impostor, Ramesh, as his progeny. Ramesh, however, strays into a life of crime, and intriguingly crosses paths with Ashok. The plot thickens as Ashok, while masquerading as Guru, clashes with a malevolent mob led by a one-armed kingpin, whose circle of crime includes Ramesh. Amidst the chaos, Ashok's heart is captivated by the enchanting Sujatha, niece of a high-ranking police officer. Despite the perils of his secret life, Ashok manages to win her adoration. His past, however, haunts him relentlessly. In an unforeseen twist, he discovers that the landlord he killed in childhood was Sujatha's father. Tormented by guilt, he distances himself from Sujatha without revealing the horrifying truth, leaving her heart shattered. In his despair, Ashok plans one final audacious heist, intending to secure the future of "Parvathi Nilayam", hand over its reins to Mahesh, and retreat into solitude. The suspenseful climax hinges on whether Ashok can execute his daring plan and escape the shadows of his past.
