In the heartland of the Middle West, nestled within the small, unassuming town of Grandview, Illinois, we find eighteen-year-old Tim Pearson. A dreamer on the cusp of high school graduation, he is caught between the expectations of his authoritarian father and his aspirational dreams of studying oceanography in Florida. Tim stands at the brink of adulthood, his heart yearning for the captivating allure of the ocean, away from the predictable familiarity of Grandview. As the days to graduation dwindle, fate intervenes, leading Tim to cross paths with the intriguing Michelle "Mike" Cody. A spirited 27-year-old, Mike is the beleaguered owner of the local Demolition Derby track, the Speedrome, a gritty world away from the placid confines of his life. In the dust and roar of the derby, Tim finds himself inexplicably drawn to the resilient Mike, her strength and independence a beacon in the monotony of small-town life. Among the derby drivers is the charismatic Ernie "Slam" Webster, a local hero marred by a complex personal life. Slam's wife's infidelity propels him towards Mike, setting off a tumultuous love triangle that threatens to shake the foundations of their intertwined lives. As passions flare and secrets unravel, Tim is faced with the daunting choice between the comfort of the known and the thrill of the new.
