Gidget Goes Hawaiian (1961)

Southern Californian sweetheart Francine Lawrence, affectionately known as Gidget to her friends, finds herself in a whirlwind of sun-soaked drama when a family vacation to Hawaii disrupts her summer romance with college-bound love interest, Jeff Matthews, or 'Moondoggie'. Just as their relationship hits a milestone, with the exchange of traditional 'pins', Gidget's parents announce plans for a Hawaiian getaway. The timing couldn't be worse for the young couple, with Moondoggie's college departure looming. Caught in a tangle of youthful emotions, Gidget initially resists the trip, but a heated disagreement with Jeff propels her to the tropical paradise. Despite the island's allure and a host of sun-kissed boys, including the dashing celebrity dancer Eddie Horner, Gidget finds herself drowning in misery. In a twist of events, she decides to escape her gloom and indulge in the Hawaiian fun, unknowingly setting the stage for a storm of misunderstandings. In an attempt to lift Gidget's spirits, her father, Russ Lawrence, arranges a surprise visit from Jeff. The surprise, however, backfires when Jeff catches Gidget in Eddie's embrace. To add fuel to the fire, Jeff crosses paths with Abby, a charming girl Gidget met on the flight, and decides to stir the pot of jealousy. As the Hawaiian waves crash and the island breezes blow, Abby's few unexpected words about Gidget set off a chain of events that place hurdles in the path of Gidget and Jeff's blissful reunion. Yet, in a land where the unexpected is the norm, a few more words from Abby might just turn the tide in Gidget's favor. Amidst the tropical chaos, a few missing persons need to be found before Gidget and Moondoggie can find their way back to each other.
