In the heart of Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani (1988) is Dhanraj (Kader Khan), a gentle soul caught in the crossfire of a domineering, wealth-obsessed wife (Shashikala) and their three children, each tangled in their own tumultuous lives. Their elder son Ram (Rishi Kapoor) is joined in matrimony to the virtuous Seeta (Jaya Pradha), while their younger son, the passionate Amar (Govinda), is smitten by the lovely Asha (Farha). Their only daughter, Uma (Aruna Irani), has chosen to remain under her mother's roof, wedded to Lallu Ram (Ashok Saraf) yet living separately.
In a quest for increasing her fortune, Mrs. Dhanraj dreams of marrying Amar to a rich heiress, hoping for a hefty dowry. Amidst this whirlpool of familial chaos, Ram's gaze falls on the close bond between his wife Seeta and brother Amar. Suspicion gnaws at his heart, sowing seeds of distrust, even as Amar ties the knot with Asha. Still tormented by doubt, Ram finds solace at the bottom of a bottle and in the company of his childhood friend, Deepa (Anita Raaj).
