Plot

In a spontaneous flurry of merriment, celebrated cartoonists Winsor McCay and George McManus, along with renowned humorist Thomas A. 'Tad' Dorgan and their jovial companions, embark on a joy ride that is abruptly halted by a flat tire. As the driver navigates the unexpected interruption, the creative ensemble stumbles upon a nearby museum, where the skeletal remains of a dinosaur spark a wave of inspiration. Rising to the challenge, McCay playfully wagers McManus that he can resurrect the extinct creature through the sheer power of his craft. Six months and a staggering ten thousand meticulous drawings later, McCay stands ready to claim his victory. Over a lavish dinner, he unveils his latest and most extraordinary brainchild - Gertie the Dinosaur. As the group watches in awe, the static illustration transforms into a prehistoric panorama where Gertie, the genial herbivore, springs to life from a hidden cave. She dances, laments, gobbles up a pumpkin, and even consumes an entire tree, leaving her spectators spellbound. The fantastical journey takes an even more captivating turn as McCay himself steps into his illustrated world. To the group's amazement, Gertie gently cradles her creator on her colossal back for an unforgettable ride, seamlessly blurring the lines between reality and the realm of McCay's vivid imagination. This whimsical tale weaves a narrative that transcends the ordinary, leaving viewers enchanted by the magic of animation and the timeless allure of Gertie the Dinosaur.
