Plot

In the tempestuous Heiji Era of 1160, the intricate tapestry of feudal Japan is violently disrupted. Lord Kiyomori, a figure of nobility and power, journeying with his court to the sacred Temple of Itsukushima, finds his stronghold, Sanjo Castle, ensnared in the treacherous webs of a coup d'etat, perpetrated by two ambitious lords. In these dire circumstances, the steadfast and loyal samurai, Moritoh Enda, emerges as a beacon of hope. He enlists the graceful court lady Kesa to masquerade as the lord's sister, weaving a crafty diversion that allows the lord's real kin to slip unnoticed through the ensuing chaos. With the safety ensured, Moritoh embarks on a perilous journey to rendezvous with Lord Kiyomon. With courage and honor, they clash with the conspiring lords, their blades gleaming, and their spirits unyielding, until the coup crumbles to dust. As a reward for his valor and loyalty, Lord Kiyomon grants Moritoh a single wish. Consumed by his hidden desire for the enigmatic Kesa, Moritoh requests her hand in marriage. Yet, his happiness is short-lived when he learns that Kesa's heart already belongs to Wataru Watanabe, a samurai from the imperial guard, and she is his wife. Undeterred, Moritoh's desire for Kesa morphs into a dangerous obsession. He relentlessly harasses Kesa, his threats echoing like a chilling wind, promising a river of blood that would claim her husband, her aunt, and even herself unless she succumbs to his demands. Cornered by Moritoh's menacing pursuit, Kesa is forced to make a decision, a decision that would cast a dark shadow upon their lives, leading them down a path of tragic inevitability.
